Mechanical Product Design Engineer – Manufacturing Sector
Based in Bedfordshire, this global manufacturer seeks an experienced Product Design Engineer with a minimum of 3-5 years UK Design Engineering experience. Working on a full time basis, with a salary circa £50,000, you will work as part of the wider design and product engineering team, reporting to the engineering manager. Fully involved in the design of precision-engineered prototypes, this position will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and refining mechanical systems that power innovation across several industry sectors.

Product Design Engineer, you will lead the design-for-manufacture process within an ISO 9001-accredited environment, using cutting-edge 3D CAD tools to bring mechanical concepts to life. Your work will span new product development, design optimisation, and work on bespoke engineering projects.

Key responsibilities:
- Designing mechanical components and assemblies using NX, Inventor, and AutoCAD
- Producing 3D models and detailed 2D drawings to current manufacturing standards
- Conducting performance and safety calculations including FEA and FMEA analysis
- Managing projects from concept through to delivery, including layout creation and part rationalisation
- Applying Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) to deliver cost-effective solutions
- Creating technical documentation including material specifications and IOM manuals
- Maintaining and updating Bills of Materials
- Driving continuous improvement through kaizen events and cross-functional collaboration
- Supporting testing, supplier visits, and customer interactions in the UK and abroad

- Mininum 5 years’ mechanical design experience in a 3D CAD environment
- Strong proficiency in CAD software (NX, Inventor, AutoCAD)
- Familiarity with FEA tools and rotating machinery (preferred)
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
- A positive, team-oriented mindset with a commitment to excellence
- Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred
- Minimum HNC/HND with relevant industrial experience
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration desirable but not essential
- Demonstrated experience in 3D CAD design is essential
